Accessibility Statement

SingingRangeTest.com is committed to making its tools and educational content accessible to the widest possible range of users, including people with disabilities. This statement explains our current accessibility status, the known limitations of our tools for certain users, what we have done to support accessibility, and how to contact us if you encounter a barrier.

Our Commitment

We believe that anyone curious about their singing voice — or about vocal range and voice science — deserves access to tools and information that help them understand it, regardless of disability, device, or technical setup.

SingingRangeTest.com aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and speech-related disabilities.

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. When barriers are identified — by our own review or through user feedback — we work to address them.

Current Accessibility Status

SingingRangeTest.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the website do not yet fully meet the standard. Known gaps are disclosed in the Limitations section below.

What we have implemented

Keyboard navigation. Core site navigation — menus, links, and page structure — is accessible via keyboard. Users who cannot use a mouse can navigate between sections using the Tab key and activate links with Enter.

Text readability. Body text is set at a minimum of 16px with sufficient line spacing to support readability for users with dyslexia or low vision. Heading levels (H1, H2, H3) follow correct hierarchical order throughout the site, allowing screen readers to navigate content structure logically.

Colour contrast. Text and background colour combinations across the site are chosen to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 Level AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.

Descriptive link text. Links across the site use descriptive text that explains their destination — not generic phrases such as “click here” or “read more.” This benefits screen reader users who navigate by cycling through links.

Alt text on images. Meaningful images used in articles and tool pages include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them appropriately.

Responsive design. The site is fully responsive and adapts to screen sizes from small mobile devices to large desktop monitors. Content reflows cleanly without horizontal scrolling at standard zoom levels up to 200%.

No auto-playing media. No audio or video content on this site begins playing automatically without user action.

Page titles. Every page has a unique, descriptive title tag, allowing users navigating between browser tabs or using a screen reader to identify their location.

Skip navigation link. A “Skip to content” link is available at the top of every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass navigation and reach page content directly.

Known Limitations

SingingRangeTest.com includes interactive browser-based tests that require vocal activity and real-time pitch detection. These features present specific accessibility challenges that we disclose transparently.

Voice and microphone dependency. All vocal measurement tools on this site — including the three Singing Range Test modes, the Pitch Accuracy Test, High Note Test, Low Note Test, Singing Note Detector, Voice Type Test, and Vocal Range Calculator — require access to a functioning microphone and the ability to produce sustained vocal sound. These tools are not usable by people who are unable to vocalise or who do not have a working microphone available on their device. This is an inherent constraint of the tool’s purpose, not a design oversight.

Vocal map visualisation. The vocal map produced by the Professional and Guided test modes displays register ranges and passaggio zones as a graphical chart. This visual representation does not currently have full screen reader support — the register data (chest voice range, mixed voice range, head voice range, passaggio zones, tessitura estimate) is not yet fully announced as structured text by assistive technology. We are working to add ARIA live region announcements and a text-based alternative summary of the vocal map output.

Multi-step test interface. The Professional and Guided test modes involve multiple sequential steps — health check, warm-up exercises, register-by-register recording, and results display. While individual buttons are keyboard accessible, the overall multi-step flow has not been fully tested across all screen reader and keyboard navigation combinations. Some steps may require mouse interaction in their current form.

Warm-up exercise interface. The five-exercise vocal warm-up in the Guided Test includes timed exercise cards with progress indicators. These timed elements may not be fully accessible to users who require extended time to navigate between steps, and the progress indicators are primarily visual.

Real-time pitch display. During active testing, the pitch detector displays your current note name, frequency in Hz, and tuning position in real time. These real-time updates are not currently announced by screen readers, as frequent live announcements during active singing would interfere with the testing process. The final results summary is the accessible output for screen reader users.

Third-party advertising. This site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. The accessibility of individual ad creatives is outside our direct control, as ads are provided by third-party advertisers.

Text Alternatives for Test Results

We recognise that the interactive test interfaces are not accessible to all users. The following pages provide text-based educational content covering the concepts the tests measure and are fully accessible without microphone use or active testing:

These pages are designed to be fully usable with screen readers and keyboard navigation.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

SingingRangeTest.com has been tested for basic compatibility with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers: NVDA with Chrome (Windows), VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation: Tested in Chrome and Firefox on Windows
  • Browser zoom: Content tested at 200% zoom without loss of content or functionality
  • High contrast mode: Core content remains readable in Windows High Contrast mode

We recommend using an up-to-date version of Chrome or Firefox with your preferred assistive technology for the most consistent experience.

Feedback and Contact

We welcome accessibility feedback. If you experience a barrier on any page or tool on SingingRangeTest.com — a test step that cannot be completed without a mouse, a result that is not announced by your screen reader, or any other accessibility issue — please let us know.

Contact method: singingrangetest.com/contact-us

Please include:

  • The page or tool where you experienced the issue
  • The assistive technology and browser you were using
  • A description of what you expected and what happened instead

We review all accessibility feedback personally and aim to respond within 7 business days. Where a reported barrier is confirmed, we will work to address it and update this statement accordingly.

Formal Complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you may wish to contact the relevant national enforcement body for accessibility standards in your country. In the United Kingdom, this is the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In the United States, the relevant body depends on the context of the accessibility complaint.

Review Schedule

This accessibility statement is reviewed and updated at least once per year, or whenever significant changes are made to the site’s tools or structure. Outstanding issues identified in this statement are tracked for resolution on an ongoing basis.
